The Inker leaves too heavy an impression on the seal, badly smudges the imprint. Cannot for the life of me reduce the amount of ink so the Inker doesn't mess up my whole desk.

I am sorry you are having trouble with the inker. You need to get a deep impression with the embosser first. If the embosser impression is not really raised, the inker will not be able to ink just the raised parts of the seal as nothing is really raised. Once you get a crisp impression, then ink over top of it. The pressure of the inker is not as important as getting a good impression impression with the embossing seal.
