In Wyoming, every engineer is required to have a state seal or rubber stamp, acquired at their own expense, to apply to all paperwork. The stamp or seal must conform to the rules and regulations that are sent out by the Engineering Board in the State of Wyoming.
The Requirements
In Wyoming, there is some flexibility as to the type of device you can use – either seals or rubber stamps are acceptable. The measurements must meet strict specifications, though. The seal or stamp must measure 1 3/4" on the outside, and 1 1/4" on the inside. The Wyoming PE embosser and seal is a crimp type, and the rubber stamp is simply a facsimile of the seal. On the seal, you will see two concentric circles. On the upper portion of the seal, the phrase “Professional Engineer” will appear between the two circles. On the lower
portion, at the bottom of the annular space, appears the name of the state. The inner circle contains the licensee’s name and number, along with the date. The licensee number is centered in the inner portion of the seal, and should not be larger than the name.Using the Seal or Stamp on Documents
On any documents that you must file, there must be an imprint of your Wyoming PE embosser seal. This is either the original seal, or a rubber stamp facsimile. You have to seal any documents, plans, drawings, sketches, plats, or other types of work product, whether you are submitting them to a client, or to the State of Wyoming. The seal or stamp must also appear on any original or non-original copies, as well as on any tracings. Seals that have been created using CAD equipment are acceptable, but they must be accompanied by an original, dated
signature of the person who has prepared the document. Any computer generated seals must also comply with the requirements outlined in the previous section.Your Wyoming PE embosser seal or stamp may appear only on work that is under your exclusive control. This means either work that you have done, or that has been done under your direct supervision. If you are found to have used the seal or stamp on work that was not under your direct control, you may be subject to disciplinary action by the Board.

Misuse of the Seal
In addition to disciplinary action if you have misused the seal, you can also be held liable if someone else does so without your knowledge. If your seal is lost, or has been stolen, it is important that you report this to the Board immediately. Otherwise, you could be held legally responsible for any damage due to faulty work done under your seal between the time you noticed it missing and the time that you actually reported this to the Board. And again, you could face disciplinary action. Never delay reporting a missing seal.
